Literacy Intervention Teacher (Bilingual)

 

Primary Goals:

1. To instruct identified dyslexic students in individual or small group arrangements according to programmatic expectations per the TEA Dyslexia Handbook;

2. To instruct students in need of literacy intervention as determined by campus administration and teachers, priority given to K-2 students;

3. Provide support for teachers related to effective literacy strategies;

4. Conduct student assessments in order to diagnose reading difficulties and better target instruction.

 

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree from accredited college or university

• Spanish Language speaker

• A minimum of 3 years classroom teaching experience

• Training in Multisensory Teaching Approach program and/or Take Flight preferred

• Master’s degree with Reading Specialist certification preferred

• Academic Language Therapist certification preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

• Improve the reading skills of assigned students.

• Implement an instructional, therapeutic, or skill development program for assigned students and maintain ongoing documentation of student progress.

• Assess students formally and informally for the purpose of planning instructional activities and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding students’ progress, expectations, and goals.

• Promptly handle paperwork and reports related to dyslexia and other literacy assessments.

• Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.

• Interact constructively with district personnel regarding matters relating to 504 identification, assessment expectations, and district-wide LIT/BLIT Professional Learning Community meetings (PLC).

• Work cooperatively with classroom teachers to design/support accommodations for regular curricula as needed.

• Collaborate with teachers regarding effective literacy strategies for dyslexic students and others needing Tier 2 intervention.

• • Advise parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of supporting the teacher’s expectations, developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment.

  • Attend after hours meetings occasionally for purposes of parent education and/or building relationships with parent advocacy groups.

  • Seek out professional learning and resources to ensure necessary skills and proficiencies to support students effectively.

  • Maintain a professional and positive relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.

  • Report incidents for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment and adhering to Education Code, district and/or school policies.
