Primary Purpose:
The primary purpose is to assist the RN by assuming routine record keeping activities, providing first aid health care, administering medications, and conducting health screenings at the campus level. Work under the direct and indirect guidance and direction of a licensed registered nurse.
Qualifications
Education/Experience:
High School Diploma
CMA preferred
Have or pursue certification in First Aid, CPR, Vision and Hearing, AN, and Spinal
Screening
One (1) year successful experience in health related position including contact with school-age children preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of basic first aid and cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR), including use of an
AED
Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
Proficient keyboarding and computer data entry skills
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Administer first aid to ill or injured students/employees.
- Assist the nurse in administering medication according to the district medication policy.
- Carry out specialized health care procedures as trained and directed by the school nurse according to guidelines set by the Board of Nurse Examiners.
- Monitor and observe students in seizure recovery.
- Use universal precautions consistently.
- Follow GCISD policy on exclusion for communicable diseases and head lice.
- Assist with screening activities including measuring height and weight, testing vision and hearing and examining spinal cord and scalp.
- Maintain confidentiality and privacy of all student information, records and matters related to clinic care
- Assists nurse with documentation of clinic activities and health record maintenance.
- Assist nurse with immunization compliance.
- Assist nurse with entering immunization and health-related data into the computer.
- Inform supervising nurse or building administrator if a need for transporting a student exists, but does not transport students.
- Participate in meetings and training sessions as designed by District staff.
- Assist in campus duty assignments as required.
- Regular and consistent attendance.
- Perform additional duties as requested by building administrator or nursing supervisor.
