Primary Purpose:

 

The primary purpose of the MTSS (Multi-Tiered Systems of Support) Instructional Coach is to collaborate with district/campus administration and teachers in order to build their capacity as effective instructors for students in MTSS (Tier 1 to Tier 3).   The MTSS Instructional Coach will ensure understanding and implementation of the district’s universal screener and progress monitoring tools along with the District MTSS Handbook. The MTSS Instructional Coach will facilitate change in the areas of aligning teaching and learning with curriculum standards and district curriculum and support campuses with using formative and summative assessment data for MTSS decision-making. The MTSS Instructional Coach will support campus administrators in the areas of data analysis, instructional accountability, and the MTSS process.  The MTSS Instructional Coach will work collaboratively with other instructional coaches to determine MTSS needs and ways to address those needs. In addition, the MTSS Instructional Coach will work closely with the MTSS Coordinator to refine and uphold the District MTSS Handbook, disaggregate data, and design/deliver job-embedded professional learning to district staff.

 

Qualifications:

 

Education/Experience:

  • Minimum of five years of instructional experience
  • Academic/behavior intervention experience
  • Coaching experience preferred

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Current knowledge and application of educational research on best practices
  • Deep understanding of the relationship of Curriculum, Instruction & Assessment
  • Ability to disaggregate and analyze student assessment data
  • Thorough understanding of Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS)
  • Thorough understanding of the Response To Intervention process
  • Experience with designing and facilitating quality staff development
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders to influence practices and earn trust
  • Evidence of campus/district leadership
  • Ability to speak and write effectively, and establish and maintain effective relationships with administrators, teachers, staff, students, and parents

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

 

  1. Resource Provider – To expand teachers’ use of a variety of resources to improve instruction
  2. Catalyst for Change – To create disequilibrium with the current state as an impetus to explore alternatives to current practice
  3. Data Coach – To ensure that student achievement data drives instructional discussions at the classroom and school level
  4. Instructional Specialist – To align instruction with curriculum to meet the needs of all students
  5. Classroom Supporter – To increase the quality and effectiveness of classroom instruction
  6. Learning Facilitator – To design collaborative, job-embedded, standards-based professional learning as well as provide summer professional development opportunities
  7. Mentor – To increase the instructional skills of the novice teacher
  8. School Leader – To work collaboratively with the school’s formal leadership to design, implement, and assess school change initiatives to ensure alignment and focus on intended results
  9. Learner – To model continuous learning, to keep current, and to be a thought leader in the school

Working Conditions:

Maintain emotional control under stress. Occasional district-wide and statewide travel; frequent prolonged and irregular hours.

Ability to lift up to 40 pounds when needed to move materials.
