Primary Purpose:

 

The primary purpose of an early childhood specialist is to support the continuity and fidelity of the district-wide early childhood program. Early childhood specialists will support teacher effectiveness by modeling early childhood instructional best practices, classroom management strategies and provide in field training for paraprofessionals

 

Qualifications:

 

Education/Certification:

 

Bachelor’s degree from accredited university

Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements 

ESL Certification preferred 

 

Education/Experience:

 

  • Minimum of five years teaching experience
  • Instructional Specialist/Coaching experience preferred 

 

Special Knowledge/Skills: 

 

  • Current knowledge and application of educational research on best practices
  • Skilled classroom management
  • Restorative practices 
  • Strong literacy instruction background 
  • Extensive content knowledge pre-kindergarten through first grade
  • Learning environment expertise
  • Thorough understanding of multi-tiered system of support (MTSS)
  • Evidence of campus/district leadership
  • Ability to speak and write effectively, and establish and maintain effective relationships with administrators, teachers, staff and students.

Major Responsibilities and Duties: 

  1. Increase the quality and effectiveness of classroom instruction and model best practices.
  2. Facilitating the effectiveness of the learning environment and application of behavior intervention strategies.
  3. Design collaborative, job-embedded, professional learning. 
  4. Increase instructional skills of classrooms teachers to expand teachers’ use of a variety of resources to improve instruction.
  5. Model continuous learning, in order to ensure current practices, and to be a thought leader in the school.

Maintain emotional control under stress. Occasional district wide and statewide travel; frequent prolonged and irregular hours.
