Primary Purpose:
To provide a safe environment for all pool patrons and swimmers in the pool and deck areas
Qualifications:
Have a current American Red Cross LGT, YMCA or Ellis and Standard First Aid/CPR
Be mentally and physically fit
Be at least 16 years of age
Have at least one year of previous experience as a lifeguard
Have a genuine interest in lifeguard work and all water activities
Have regular and consistent attendance. Report to work promptly
Be dependable, courteous, and neat. Have good communication, public relations and interpersonal skills.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Prevent accidents through the enforcement of policies, regulations, and ordinances governing the conduct of persons using the swimming pool.
2. Required to know the Swim Center Emergency Action Plan and how to initiate it
3. Complete an incident report for all accidents and injuries
4. Constantly be on the lookout, when on duty, for accidents occurring in the water, on the deck, or on diving equipment.
5. Enter to water to rescue persons in trouble, resuscitate swimmers who need it, administer first aide to the injured, and call 911 for serious accident cases.
6. Perform all facets of pool maintenance
7. Call the Pool Manager or Assistant Pool manager if assistance in maintaining discipline of swimmers is needed
8. Be friendly, helpful, and cheerful to all pool patrons and fellow employees in the performance of duties
9. Assist as needed in any area of the pool when requested by the Head Lifeguard or Assistant Pool Manager
10. Report definite or potential physical hazards and unsafe conditions to Pool Manager or Assistant Pool Manager.
11. Maintain an acceptable appearance at all times, with regard to both uniform and personal hygiene. Will have a whistle and first aid hip-pack with them at all times while on duty.
12. Service as Cashier during open swim times as scheduled or requested by the Pool Manager, Assistant Pool Manager, or Head Lifeguard, and subject to the regulations and business procedures of the particular agency using the pool at that time
13. Respect and follow the Swim Center chain of command
14. Attend mandatory inservice training
15. Maintain confidentiality
16. Participate in meetings and training sessions as designed by District staff
17. Regular and consistent attendance
18. All other duties as assigned
Equipment Used:
Employee handles hazardous materials, including chlorine bleach, hydrochloric acid, sodium bisulfate, sodium thiosulfate, carbon dioxide gas, sodium bicarbonate, calcium chloride, muriatic acid, calcium hypochlorite, and other such pool chemicals.

Indoor duties are performed in a temperature-controlled environment; however, worker is exposed to wet cement and mat surfaces while working. Work hazards or potential work hazards include the exposure to dangerous emergency situations involving rescue, and hazardous chemicals. Demonstrate patience and flexibility in changing job demands and when interacting with employees, visitors, and the public. Maintain emotional control under stress. |
