Primary Purpose:

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the core academic subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop STEM competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

 

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Bachelor’s degree from accredited university

Master’s degree from accredited university preferred

Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or required training for subject and level assigned

Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of core academic subject assigned

General knowledge of curriculum and instruction

Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior

Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Demonstrate knowledge and application of effective STEM education principles, practices and trends

Demonstrate knowledge of teaching and learning 21st Century Skills in a digital environment using a Problem-Based Approach

Passionate for excellence and have a commitment to develop students who think critically and solve real-world problems

Ability to work as a leader and member of a team through cooperation and collaboration



Experience:

At least one year student teaching or approved internship

Two or more years teaching experience preferred

Experience teaching in a STEM program preferred

Experience teaching in a digital environment preferred

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional Strategies

  • Develop and implement STEM integrated lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of district’s curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required.
  • Design student centered learning that meet outcomes of STEM based curriculum and aligned to state standards
  • Design lessons that are STEM-centric and utilize an Engineering and Design Process.  
  • Design authentic Problem-Based learning experiences.  
  • Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles.
  • Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
  • Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  • Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
  • Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s).
  • Use technology in a 1:1 environment to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
  • Utilize assessment data to differentiate curriculum and instructional practices to help students meet school performance standards:  common formative assessment.

 

  • Reteach, spiral, change daily instruction to meet student needs.

 

  • Assist in ongoing development of rubrics, formative assessments, STEM curriculum, Problem-Based Learning.

 

Student Growth and Development

  • Help students analyze and improve study methods and STEM habits of mind.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • Be a positive role model for students, support mission of school district.

Classroom Management and Organization

  • Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.

Communication

  • Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  • Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.

Promoting a Culture of STEM

  • Active involvement in promoting STEM during school day and after school events,
  • Planning and preparation for Family Engineering Night,
  • Work with outside organizations to promote STEM culture,
  • Work on STEM Grants,
  • Assist with other STEM initiatives as assigned by principal.



Professional Growth and Development

  • Devote necessary professional learning time and energy required to master the craft of teaching at a STEM Academy
  • Open to using innovative approaches to teaching and receiving feedback from colleagues and school administration
  • Actively participate in PLCs to promote your own professional growth
  • Have a desire to be a model learner in the school; learner first, then teacher
  • Commitment to ongoing and specialized trainings outside of school contract days (i.e. summer)
  • Willingness to present at campus, district, state and national levels
  • Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
