PRIMARY PURPOSE:

 

Assist in maintenance, repairs and replacement of irrigation systems within the district.

 

BASIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Assist in the design, maintenance and implementation of all components of the irrigation system including mechanical and electrical systems
  • Locate and chart all water lines, electrical lines, controls, valves, disconnects and other installed items associated with irrigation systems.
  • Adjust and regulate irrigation schedules for the appropriate season.
  • Maintains inventory of parts associated with irrigation system
  • Keep grounds around irrigation systems in good repair and appearance at all times.
  • Perform winterizing procedures to prevent weather damage.
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
  • Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.
  • Accurately report work hours using a time clock
  • Utilize effective communication skills; ensure that all interactions are supportive, courteous, and respectful.
  • Comply with all policies, operating procedures, legal requirements, and verbal and written directives.
  • Comply with the Employee Standards of Conduct.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

 

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot valve malfunctions
  • Working knowledge of electronic devices (volt/ohmmeter, wire tracer)
  • General knowledge of irrigation control operations and functions
  • Ability to complete assignments in a timely and workable manner
  • Ability to lift tools, supplies, materials, and equipment in the performance required
  • Ability to operate equipment associated with grounds maintenance

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

            Education/Certification: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Texas driver’s license with a record of safe driving
  • Texas Licensed Landscape Irrigator a plus

 

            Experience: 

  • One (1) year related to irrigation systems and grounds maintenance

 

EQUIPMENT USED:  

 

Hand tools, pipe cutters and threaders, testing equipment, leak locator, welding equipment, soldering torch, flaring tools, pumps, wrenches, trucks, forklifts, digging equipment, trenching equipment, digging tools

 

 

MENTAL/PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:

 

  • Maintain emotional control under stress
  • Lifting of up to 60 lbs.
  • Frequent bending, standing, and crawling and climbing ladders
  • Work in all weather conditions
