Primary Purpose:

The purpose of the GCISD Department of Communications Services is to support the district’s mission, vision and core beliefs through a two-way communication approach with internal and external public that promotes the successes and accomplishments of the district and its students and staff; informs stakeholders of the objectives, policies, needs and procedures of the district; increases awareness of matters of state and national importance that affect the district; fosters community support and a positive image of the district and its schools and programs and emphasizes the district’s commitment to continuous educational improvement and success for every student.

The Digital Content Specialist is responsible for monitoring and delivering the strategy of our key digital platforms including website, social media, and marketing opportunities in the digital space. You will use your expertise to develop roadmaps and best practices and monitor the effectiveness of specific digital channels, providing insights and advice on performance indicators and targets. 

Qualifications:

 

Education/Certification:

The ideal candidate will hold a degree in journalism, communications or a related field from an accredited college or university and will have 3+ years of communication-related or digital channels experience. Experience in school communications preferred.

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Strong writing, editing, proofreading and research skills
  • Ability to comprehend complex instructional strategies and tailor communications for both an internal and external audience
  • Ability to consistently meet deadlines
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priority projects
  • Knowledge of AP Style, preferred
  • Knowledge and experience of managing digital platforms (e.g. web, mobile, social media, digital advertising, SEO, CRM, customer segmentation)
  • Working knowledge and experience using a web content management system (CMS), and various computer programs including Microsoft Office, Photoshop and Adobe Acrobat Professional (InDesign is a plus.)
  • Initiative, positive attitude and strong work ethic
  • Reliable transportation to and from district events
  • Strong presentation and communication skills 

Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Act as product owner across digital platforms and channels, working closely with the Communications team and colleagues in Technology to develop new functionality or best practices for the District
  2. Monitor and evaluate the use of brand social media channels (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram) and develop a Linkedin strategy for the District.
  3. Write feature stories and news releases to distribute to local media contacts.
  4. Responsible for developing and populating a content calendar system that would be used to schedule and manage content on our various platforms. 
  5. Launch social media campaigns and boost district and community participation in sharing student and staff celebrations.
  6. Work closely with content creators to organize, post and promote deliverables throughout the system.
  7. Monitor channel usage statistics and respond to any issues that emerge from this data.
  8. Attend Board of Trustees meetings as needed, serving as backup to Executive Director, Director and/or Multimedia Coordinator as needed. During meetings, manage board recognition presentations for students, staff and other members of the GCISD community. Create unofficial board summary for all Board meetings and attend meetings as needed.
  9. Assist with special-project writings, publications and presentations as assigned including brochures, community reports and marketing materials.
  10. Working with Communications Services to assist in development and planning of special events.
  11. Serve as the district administrator responsible for School Messenger. This includes offering campus administrator training and assisting during crisis situations or as the need arises.
  12. Work with the Executive Director to develop a quarterly report using data and analytics to showcase the value the Communications team brings to the District. 

 

Working Conditions:

This position directly reports to the Executive Director of Communications. The Digital Content Specialist works in an office setting within the Administration Complex, with regular travel to schools and facilities within the district.
