Job Title:  ELA Instructional Coach (Secondary 9-12)                                       Wage/Hour Status:   Exempt

Reports to:  Executive Director of Learning & Director of ELAR and Literacy        Pay Grade:  Teacher Pay Table 202 days

Primary Purpose:

The primary purpose of an instructional coach is to collaborate with teachers in order to build their capacity as effective educators in a learning platform environment.  Coaches will facilitate change in the areas of aligning teaching and learning with curriculum standards and district curriculum as delineated in LEAD 2.0 goals and district WIGs, using formative and summative assessment data for instructional decision-making. Coaches will support in the areas of data analysis, instructional accountability, and the MTSS process.  In addition, coaches will design and deliver job-embedded professional learning to staff as well as assist in the development of district curriculum and assessments.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

  • Minimum of five years teaching experience
  • Instructional Specialist/Coaching experience preferred 

Special Knowledge/Skills: 

  • Current knowledge and application of educational research on best ELAR practices, particularly early childhood literacy
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with administrators, teachers, staff, students, and parents
  • Deep understanding of the relationship between Curriculum, Instruction & Assessment
  • Experience with curriculum/assessment development and lesson design
  • Ability to disaggregate and analyze student assessment data
  • Thorough understanding of Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (ELAR TEKS)
  • Thorough understanding of the Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) process
  • Experience with implementing WICOR strategies
  • Competence in supporting English learners and lead teachers as they support learners with special needs
  • Understanding of cultural proficiency
  • Experience with facilitating quality staff development
  • Evidence of campus/district leadership
  • Ability to speak and write effectively and proficiency in technology

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Catalyst for Change – To create disequilibrium with the current state as an impetus to explore alternatives to current practice
  2. Advocate for Equity - Work with teachers to ensure their readiness to scaffold instruction for students to help them reach the goals of district WIG 1
  3. Data Coach – To ensure that student growth and achievement data drives instructional discussions at the classroom and school level
  4. Curriculum and Instructional Specialist – To align instruction, curriculum expectations,  and the development of students’ skills to ensure success in ELAR courses and literacy
  5. Classroom Supporter – To increase the quality and effectiveness of classroom instruction and to support teacher readiness to meet all students’ needs
  6. Learning Facilitator – To design collaborative, job-embedded professional development opportunities that focus on research-based literacy practices and social-emotional well being
  7. Mentor – To increase instructional skills of the novice teacher; to expand teachers’ use of a variety of resources to improve instruction
  8. School Leader – To work collaboratively with the school’s formal leadership team to design, implement, and assess school change initiatives to ensure alignment and focus on intended results
  9. Learner – To model continuous learning, to keep current, and to be a thought leader in the school
