Job Title: Multimedia Communications Specialist Days/Status: Exempt, 233 Days Department/School: Administration Reports to: Executive Director of Communications
Primary Purpose: The purpose of the GCISD Department of Communications Services is to support the district’s mission, vision and core beliefs through a two-way communication program with internal and external publics that promotes the successes and accomplishments of the district and its students and staff; informs stakeholders of the objectives, policies, needs and procedures of the district; increases awareness of matters of state and national importance that affect the district; fosters community support and a positive image of the district and it’s schools and programs; and emphasizes the district’s commitment to continuous educational improvement and success for every student.
The role of the Multimedia Communications Specialist is to work alongside department staff in promoting news and announcements of the district, with a focus on multimedia content including videos, photography, social media/blogs, and digital signage.
This position will support both internal and external multimedia needs of the district and contribute in an active, demanding and dynamic communications/public relations environment.
Qualifications Education/Experience: The ideal candidate will hold a degree in broadcast journalism, multimedia communications, video/media production or related field from an accredited college or university and will have proven experience in the production of multimedia projects using a variety of communication mediums.

Strong writing, editing, and research skills Script writing and storyboarding skills Web video production and posting Strong video graphics creation ability Social Media Strategy and Storytelling Ability to consistently meet deadlines Organizational skills and ability to multi-task Knowledge of AP Style, preferred General knowledge of digital photography Working knowledge and experience with various computer programs including Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Cloud) as well as video editing software including Final Cut Pro and Premiere Initiative, positive attitude and strong work ethic Self-motivated with the ability and willingness to also work within a team Reliable transportation to and from district events, as assigned
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Manage District Social Media and act as liaison for campus accounts
2. Produce and disseminate multimedia content for publicity including videos, photography, social media/blogs, and digital signage
3. Actively participate/assist in the implementation of the district’s LEAD 2.0 communications strategy
4. Assist in GCISD Game Day Experience
5. Serve as the secondary point-of-contact for the district website to assist with content maintenance and updates, supporting Page 3 of 4 campus sub-site directors when needed and providing necessary training to assure overall quality in content and design
6. Operate audio/visual rack system and remote camera system for Board Room functions including monthly Board meeting; troubleshoot issues with the room’s technology; and prepare and post Board meetings online within 12 hours of meeting
7. Produce special video projects as assigned, providing scripts and storyboards when needed or requested 8. Assist with special events planning and preparation
9. Maintain Communications Department social media calendar of important annual dates and celebrations
10. Assist with special-project writings, publications and presentations as assigned including brochures, community reports and marketing materials
11. Assist with messaging and handling media calls during crisis situations or as the need arises
12. Contribute news releases, web and social media postings, and photography toward district publicity
Working Conditions: This position directly reports to the Executive Director of Communications and works in an office/studio setting within the Administration Complex, with regular travel to schools and facilities within the district. Mental/Physical/Environmental Demands: Demonstrate patience, flexibility and professionalism when interacting with students, staff, parents, visitors, and members of the community Standing, squatting, kneeling and other positions as necessary for photographing/videoing district news Periods of sitting as needed to complete writing projects Maintain emotional control under stress Work with frequent interruptions Regular district-wide travel Ability to attend after-hours district and community events
