Job Title:  District Cataloger & Library Support Specialist                                 Wage/Hour Status:  Exempt

Reports to:  Director of Instructional Technology                                             Pay Grade:  Teacher pay scale(195 days)

Primary Purpose:

The District Cataloger & Library Support Specialist is responsible for the technical processing and cataloging of all campus learning commons materials, works independently and in coordination with the Digital Materials & Library Media Specialist to ensure access to digital library resources, and provides on demand support to campus librarians as needed.

 

Qualifications:

 

Education/Experience:

  • Master’s degree in library science or educational technology with librarian certification
  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or required training for subject and level assigned
  • Minimum of five years experience in a school library

  • Knowledge of library science

  • Proficiency in library automation software
  • Proficiency with Library resources and databases 
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to disaggregate data
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Knowledge of instructional strategies and materials
  • Experience integrating technology in teaching and learning 
  • Understanding of the relationships between curriculum, instruction & technology

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Imports bibliographic and item records from vendors into the library system.
  2. Appropriately catalogs and processes all District library materials, including, but not limited to books, digital materials, and makerspace items.
  3. Searches, downloads, and edits bibliographic records from vendors.
  4. Creates original bibliographic records and searches/saves to the library system as needed.
  5. Enhances bibliographic records with additional data from internet searches.
  6. Adds and consolidates item records for bibliographic records.
  7. Communicates and problem solves with librarians and supervisors.
  8. Provides support options to librarians on current systems and technology.
  9. Processes specific items and materials according to state and federal funding requirements.
  10. Supports campus librarians on cataloging issues in schools.
  11. Communicates and troubleshoots with vendors regarding data files.
  12. Upholds procedures for the classification and cataloging of library materials according to accepted library practices.
  13. Coordinate and compile District-wide reports, including bi-annual circulation statistics and annual inventory.
  14. Assists campuses with library collection evaluation, development and deselection, including print and digital resources.
  15. Serves as a liaison between the warehouse and campus librarians to ensure timely pick up of weeded materials.
  16. Assists the Digital Materials & Library Media Specialist and administrators in the successful implementation of campus, departmental, and district initiatives.
  17. Serves as a resource person regarding questions on the integrated library system and online databases.

 

Equipment Used:

District computers, laptops, mobile computing devices, telecommunications equipment, audio/video equipment and other peripheral devices.

 

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

 

Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time; have the dexterity of hands and fingers for keyboarding and other job functions; able to bend at the waist, kneel or crouch; able to lift, carry, push and/or pull items of up to 50lbs.
