Job Title:        Athletic Trainer                                                       Wage/Hour Status: Exempt

Reports to:     Campus Athletic Coordinator/Director of Athletics      Pay Grade:   Pay Grade 104 (187 days)

Primary Purpose:

To plan, coordinate, and supervise all components of an athletic training program for student-athletes. Also, work under the direction of a team physician to carry out activities in the areas of prevention, evaluation, emergency treatment, physical reconditioning, and rehabilitation of injuries.

Qualifications: 

Education/Experience:

Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university

Valid license from Texas Advisory Board of Athletic Trainers

Valid Texas teaching certificate with a required endorsement for subject/level assignment

Minimum student teaching experience or approved internship

NATA Certification (preferred)

 

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of therapeutic modalities and ability to apply appropriate treatment to treat student athletic injuries

Ability to instruct and supervise student athletes and assistants

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Plan and implement comprehensive athletic injury and illness prevention program for student-athletes.
  1. Establish and maintain effective communication with students, parents, medical and paramedical personnel, coaches and other staff.
  1. Provide physical conditioning training to student-athletes.
  1. Prepare athletes for games and practices by conducting evaluations and using tape, wraps, splints, braces, and other protective devices as needed.
  1. Identify acute injuries and provides first-aid triage, including assessing injuries and deciding whether an athlete should seek further medical attention and should discontinue participation in the athletic event.
  1. Determine therapeutic goals and objectives for individual athletes.
  1. Apply therapeutic modalities and instruct athletes on the proper use of exercise equipment.
  1. Evaluate and record the rehabilitation progress of athletes.  Develop criteria for progression and return to practice and competition.
  1. Coordinate scheduling of athletic physical examinations and screening.
  1. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents including medical, accident, and treatment records as required.
  1. Display excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  1. Coordinate the UIL safety training for students, coaches, and parent 
  1. Coordinate the UIL concussion education training
  1. All other duties as assigned.
