Reports to:      Executive Director of Instructional Leadership (Secondary)              Term:   233 Days

Primary Purpose:

Responsible for coordinating the administration, evaluation, and improvement of the instructional and extra-curricular programs for elementary and secondary general music, vocal music, instrumental music, art, theater arts, and dance/drill team, including UIL activities related to the fine arts program.

 

Qualifications:

Education:

Master’s Degree

Mid-Management Certificate or Principal Standard Certificate

Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS) training, preferred

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Working knowledge of fine arts curriculum and instruction

Ability to evaluate instructional programs and teaching effectiveness

Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Demonstrated supervisory experiences and leadership abilities

 

Experience:

Prior successful experience with fine arts, preferred

Minimum two years administrative experience, preferred

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Direct the development, evaluation, revision, and alignment of fine arts curriculum K-12 in the areas of instrumental music, vocal music, visual art, drama/theater, and dance/drill team.
  2. Conduct annual meetings for non-athletic student organization sponsors regarding UIL, TEA and District policies.
  3. Coordinate all fine arts programs K-12. 
  4. Oversee professional learning in all areas of the Fine Arts department.
  5. Provide support to campus principals with the development of PLCs related to find arts. 
  6. Organize staff development activities and the alignment of goals and curriculum for fine arts.
  7. Serve as the District contact on all non-athletic, extracurricular matters.  Work with all fine arts teachers and non-athletic activities sponsors on educational and administrative procedural needs of their programs. 
  8. Monitor and evaluate areas of the district fine arts program to determine the extent to which goals and objectives are met and encourage program improvement aligned with LEAD 2021/LEAD 2.0.
  9. Develop appropriately aligned assessments with the Director of Assessment.
  10. Prepare specifications for fine arts bids and supervise the purchase of fine arts materials and equipment.
  11. Act as budget manager for secondary fine arts budgets and district capital outlay.  Monitor all extracurricular budgets in the fine arts and non-athletic areas.
  12. Coordinate with campus administration the purchasing guidelines of district letter jackets for all non-athletic activities.
  13. Develop, review and update job descriptions for fine arts.
  14. Provide assistance to the Director of Human Resources and principals in the recruitment, interviewing and selection of fine arts teachers.
  15. Disseminate pertinent information to the appropriate teachers.
  16. Collaborate with appropriate personnel to ensure appropriate teaching schedules.
  17. Promote and monitor adherence to state, district, and UIL policies affecting the fine arts and student organization programs. 
  18. Manage, contact, disseminate, collect information, and recommend approval of non-athletic parent booster clubs and organizations.
  19. Coordinate UIL District contests.
  20. Maintain high visibility at a variety of district fine arts performances and UIL competitions.
  21. Weekly contact with instructional coaches and liaisons to inform regarding curriculum, instructional and assessment changes as they occur.
  22. Design intentional time for teachers to collaborate around the implementation of curriculum expectations.
  23. Communicate with classroom teachers regarding TEA updates, professional learning opportunities and current research.
  24. Facilitate the process of book adoptions in the adoption cycle.
  25. Perform other duties as assigned.

Travels between campus assignments; occasional district/regional travel; occasional prolonged hours; steady phone interactions; moderate standing, walking, and bending; occasional lifting up to 35 lbs.
