Primary Purpose: To facilitate student success in academics, creative thinking, problem-solving, leadership, and interpersonal skills. GT Specialists will implement district approved GT curriculum; document teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; address specific educational needs of GT students; provide a safe, risk-free learning environment; provide feedback to students, parents and administrators regarding student progress, program expectations, goals, and identification procedures.
Qualifications/Educational Experience:
- Minimum of five years teaching experience
- Minimum of three years GT cluster teacher teaching experience preferred
- Knowledge of gifted education teaching strategies, curriculum, and student characteristics
- Valid Texas Teaching Certificate EC-6
- Gifted/Talented Supplemental Certification preferred (If selected, GT certification will be required within the first semester if applicant is not already GT certified.)
- Bi-lingual in English and Spanish, preferred
- Completion of state-required 30 hours GT training
- Completion of annual state-required 6 hour GT update
- Master’s Degree preferred
- Strong collaboration skills
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Teach district GT curriculum to identified students.
- Monitor and record student progress.
- Assist the advanced academics department with all procedures and policies related to GT testing, placement decisions, and communication with all stakeholders.
- Plan collaboratively with advanced academics department, GT specialists, and classroom teachers.
- Assist the campus and the advanced academics department with translating communication from English into Spanish about gifted education, curriculum, and GT testing procedures.
- Provide demonstration lessons and extensions in the content areas.
- Provide professional learning at the district and/or campus level.
- Communicate with parents regarding district program expectations and goals, curriculum, student progress, identification and social/emotional needs of gifted and high ability students.
