Salary commensurate with experience

 

Primary Purpose:

 

Maintains irrigation systems district-wide; designs and installs minor renovations and systems throughout the district.

Qualifications: 

  • Texas Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record maintained throughout employment.
  • Texas Licensed Landscape Irrigator preferred

 

Education/Experience:

 

  • High School Diploma or GED;
  • Five years of relevant work experience.
  • Any combination of training, education, and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

 

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

 

  • Performs varied semi-skilled and skilled maintenance duties in the maintenance, repair, and construction of GCISD District irrigation systems; areas of responsibility, include, but are not limited to, installation, operation, maintenance, and inspection of irrigation systems.
  • Operates vehicles and a variety of tools and equipment used in irrigation installation and maintenance.
  • Inspects tools and equipment for safety and mechanical defects and ensures that they are in proper operating condition.
  • Evaluates assigned work projects, including materials and staff resources needed to perform the work; estimates time, materials, and equipment necessary for the successful completion of the project; acquires necessary resources as appropriate.
  • Assists with monitoring inventory, ordering supplies, and maintaining purchase records within authorized budget.
  • Receives and responds to questions and concerns; identifies issues and resolves problems or refers to supervisor as appropriate.
  • Follows safe working practices and makes appropriate use of related safety equipment as required.
  • Maintains records and logs.
  • Assists with District special events as needed and performs related duties as assigned.

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

 

  • Materials and equipment used in the installation, maintenance, and operation of irrigation systems.
  • Methods and techniques of maintaining tools and equipment.
  • Backflow testing
  • Safety practices and equipment.
  • Principles and procedures of recordkeeping.

 

Working Conditions:

 

Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments with moderate to loud noise levels. May work in controlled temperature conditions, cold and hot temperatures, or inclement weather conditions. Exposure to chemicals, mechanical and electrical hazards, and hazardous physical substances and fumes. Will interact with individuals in interpreting and enforcing rules, policies, and procedures.

 

Mental/Physical/Environmental Demands:

 

May be assigned an on-call and irregular work schedule, including weekends, early mornings, evenings, and holidays.
