Job Title: Multimedia Communications Coordinator         Days/Status: Exempt, 233 Days

Department/School: Administration.                           Reports to: Executive Director of Communications

 

Primary Purpose:

The purpose of the GCISD Communications Services Department is to support the district’s mission, vision, and core beliefs through a two-way communication program with internal and external stakeholders that promotes the successes and accomplishments of the district and its students and staff; fosters community support and a positive image of the district and it’s schools and programs and emphasizes the district’s commitment to continuous educational improvement and success

for every student.

 

The role of the Multimedia Communications Coordinator is to work alongside department staff in promoting the District, with a focus on multimedia content including videos, photography, and social media. This position will support both internal and external multimedia needs of the district and contribute in an active, demanding and dynamic communications environment.

 

Qualifications

 

Education/Experience:

The ideal candidate will hold a degree in broadcast journalism, multimedia communications, video/media production or related field from an accredited college or university and will have proven experience in the production of multimedia projects using a variety of communication mediums.

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Video production and posting
  • Strong video graphics creation ability
  • Script writing and storyboarding skills
  • Knowledge of digital photography, composition, lighting
  • Knowledge of video systems, cameras, switchers, routers, lighting
  • Knowledge of audio, recording, mixing
  • Ability to conduct interviews ranging from superintendents to kindergarteners
  • Strong knowledge of non-linear editing (Adobe Premiere; After Effects skills are a plus)
  • Graphic Design skills are a plus
  • Extensive knowledge of LIVE sports production for GCISD Game Day Operations
  • Knowledge of audio systems and audio mixing equipment
  • Knowledge of graphic design with the ability to design graphics and signage for display on video board
  • Ability to work with students; training, mentoring, and supervision
  • Ability to troubleshoot audio/video issues
  • Knowledge of Tricaster A/V production switcher, Tricaster 3Play replay system, Daktronics Display Studio 
  • Knowledge of streaming, LIVE and delayed 
  • Strong writing, editing, and research skills
  • Ability to consistently meet deadlines
  • Organizational skills and ability to multitask
  • Knowledge of AP Style, preferred
  • Working knowledge and experience with various computer programs including Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite
  • Initiative, positive attitude, and strong work ethic
  • Self-motivated with the ability and willingness to also work within a team
  • Reliable transportation to and from district events, as assigned

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Produce and disseminate multimedia content for publicity including videos, photography, social media/blogs, podcasts, and digital signage
  • Produce special video projects as assigned, providing scripts and storyboards when needed or requested
  • Actively participate/assist in the implementation of the District’s communications strategy
  • Assist with the development and implementation of targeted and ongoing communication-related training for employees as defined in LEAD 2.0 communications strategy
  • Work on GCISD Game Day Operations by producing content for varsity football games including Game Day videos, Game Day graphics, sponsor ads, etc. 
    • Actively participate/assist in script writing for varsity football games and ensuring schedule is met during games 
    • Oversee, mentor, and train student volunteers before and during games 
    • Operate Tricaster A/V production switcher, Tricaster 3Play replay system, Daktronics Display Studio, and troubleshoot issues with technology
    • Communicate with other staff members and student volunteers about needs and events during games
  • Operate audio/visual rack system and remote camera system for boardroom functions including monthly school board meetings; troubleshoot issues with the room’s technology, and prepare and post-board meetings online within 12 hours of meeting
  • Assist with special events planning and preparation 
  • Contribute news releases, web and social media postings, and photography toward district publicity
  • Assist with graphic design projects and campus branding initiatives
  • Assist with special-project publications and presentations as assigned including brochures, community reports and marketing materials
  • Assist with messaging and handling media calls during crisis situations or as the need arises

 

Working Conditions:

This position directly reports to the Executive Director of Communications and works in an office/studio setting within the Administration Complex, with regular travel to schools and facilities within the District.

 

Mental/Physical/Environmental Demands:

  • Demonstrate patience, flexibility, and professionalism when interacting with students, staff, parents, visitors, and members of the community
  • Standing, squatting, kneeling, and other positions as necessary for photographing/videoing district news
  • Periods of sitting as needed to complete writing projects
  • Maintain emotional control under stress
  • Work with frequent interruptions
  • Regular district-wide travel
  • Ability to attend after-hours district and community events
