Summary:

The Blended Learning Specialist is a critical lever in improving student achievement and removing barriers to meet growth and achievement for all students. The Blended Learning Specialist is a new and integral position as we roll out blended learning with fidelity. The role of the specialist is to lead, model, create, and build teacher capacity and their instructional practices as related to data driven instruction, Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), and blended learning best practices. A Blended Learning Specialist is a learner who models continuous improvement and goes above and beyond to ensure student success. All Blended Learning Specialists will work collaboratively as a team, with campus leadership, campus staff and the office of the Executive Director of Virtual Learning. Blended Learning Specialists will promote reflection, provide guidance and structure where needed, focus on strengths, collaboration and common issues of concern. They are responsible for ensuring high quality instruction in classrooms through modeling, co-planning, co-teaching, and providing feedback to teachers. They will design, deliver, and support teachers in providing an archive of lessons and curriculum in an approved portal for all staff. The Blended Learning Specialist will demonstrate and model a passion for removing barriers in learning, education reform and leadership.  

 

Qualifications/Minimum Education/Certification:

    • Instructional Specialist/Coaching experience preferred
    • Deep understanding of the relationship of Curriculum, Instruction & Assessment
    • Experience with curriculum development
    • Thorough understanding of Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS)
    • Experience with facilitating quality staff development
    • Certified in any specific teaching area 

 

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in secondary teaching, with a record of successfully impacting student achievement and working successfully with students who have the greatest needs.
  • Proven ability to work cooperatively and effectively with colleagues, including the ability to create and nurture a professional community of adult learners. 
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities and strong interpersonal skills, including giving and receiving constructive feedback. 
  • Proven ability in using student-level data to guide instructional decisions. 
  • Demonstrated Teacher Leadership. 
  • Strong pedagogical knowledge and content expertise. 
  • Demonstrated expertise in oral and written communication. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills. 
  • Models continual improvement, demonstrates lifelong learning, and applies new learning to help all students achieve. 
  • Demonstrates evidence of professional growth, including leadership and participation in a wide range of significant professional development activities.

 

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

    • Model and create lessons in classrooms on a daily/weekly basis. 
    • Support the instructional development of all teachers in understanding data analysis, standards, content evaluation with varied assessments, blended learning practices, implementation and lesson evaluation.
    • Build strong relationships with teachers, administrators, and other specialists. 
    • Provide direction and coordination for how the curriculum is taught consistent with District initiatives and recognized best instructional practices. 
    • Create an articulated blended learning schedule with the Executive Director of Virtual Learning and campus administration. 
    • Create and support in content development for a la carte and flipped classroom courses. 
    • Provide Canvas technical support to collaborative teams within buildings. 
    • Assist teachers with resources, materials, tools, information, etc., to support classroom instruction and planning, including new resources. 
    • Support teachers and administrators in using data to improve instruction on all levels. 
    • Lead and assist teachers with development, planning and pacing of lessons, the development of differentiated lessons, and the selection of best practices to meet the needs of their students. 
    • Support teachers by helping with the strategic how of teaching, share multiple instructional strategies/processes with teachers during planning times to result in strong blended learning lessons to support all students’ academic growth. 
    • Co-teach and observe (non-evaluative) lessons and provide feedback for a teacher’s professional growth and students’ success to best implement lessons created. 
    • Develop staff members’ knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors through a variety of professional development targeted on relationships, collaboration, instructional topics, and designs. 
    • Develop coaching plans and timelines for teachers to ensure student improvement. 
    • Utilize Adult Learning Theory to motivate adult learners to improve professional practice. 
    • Contribute to the blended learning development systems and structures to improve teacher practice within schools. 
    • Provide job-embedded informal professional learning beyond the blended learning specialist responsibility. 

 

  • Submit a weekly log to include schedule, training, support, and products completed.

 

 

Mental/Physical/Environmental Demands:

Maintain emotional control under stress. Occasional district-wide and state-wide travel; frequent prolonged and irregular hours.
