Primary Purpose:
The primary purpose is to assist (under professional supervision) in the monitoring and instruction of students with a variety of physical, emotional, behavioral, or instructional needs within typical classroom setting. The employee assists in implementation of instructional, self-help, and behavior management strategies in order to facilitate student success in a variety of settings in addition to other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
Education/Experience:
High School diploma or equivalent
48+ college credit, Associate's degree or higher, or an approved state/local academic assessment)
Previous experience in an educational environment preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Education Aide Certificate is required, but may be applied for once employed.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
- Conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher and work with individual students or small groups.
- Assist in supervision of students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom.
- Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
- Help maintain behavior of assigned students. This includes intervening in crisis situations and using appropriately trained and approved methods of de-escalation and/or physical restraint.
- Support social, communication, physical, and behavioral needs of students.
- Assume responsibility for learning and adapting to each student’s special medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs.
- Adhere to flexible schedule as provided by campus administrator in conjunction with teacher.
- Participate in meetings and training sessions as designed by District staff.
- Assist in campus duty assignments as required.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Regular and consistent attendance.
- All other duties as assigned.
