Description

Primary Purpose:

Assist the Lead Caregiver in providing child care with appropriate learning activities, instructional assistance, and other responsibilities as assigned by the Assistant Coordinator. Maintain a safe, enriching and inviting atmosphere.

 

Qualifications:

Education/Experience

High school diploma or equivalent

48+ hours of study in higher education, Associates degree or

higher, or Child Development Associate (CDA)

Two to three years experience in teaching or child care field

Experience working with children in a group setting preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills

Ability to work well with children

Effective communication skills required

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional Management

Be supportive of the goals and objectives of the ECDC operations and District

Organizational Climate

Facilitate and encourage effective communication with staff, community, media and the Board of Trustees

Deal sensitively and fairly with students, parents, citizens and all persons including those of diverse cultural backgrounds.

Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical and responsible

Ensure security measures are in place and utilized to maintain the safety of the children

Demonstrate support for the district’s policies, regulations, procedures and objectives

Keep the Assistant Coordinator of ECDC informed about the affairs of the classroom

 

Administration:

Assist in implementing the program’s daily activities

Monitor children at the center

Provide a fun, safe, and positive environment

Help to keep a clean and orderly program area and assure maintenance of equipment

Prepare all meals and snacks for the center if necessary

Maintains student and employee confidentiality

Prepare any accident/incident reports in the absence of the Lead Caregiver and forward to ECDC Assistant Coordinator

Adhere to a flexible schedule as provided by the ECDC Assistant Coordinator

Communicate effectively with management, staff members, children, and parents

Ensure security measures are in place and utilized to maintain the safety of the children within the center property

Provide problem solving and collaborative planning with the ECDC Assistant Coordinator and other team members

Help review child dare practices to ensure that policies are followed, and quality programs are evident.

Assist Lead Caregiver with the review and inventory of program equipment and supplies

Communicate positively with parents

 

Personnel Management:

Assist in management of classroom operations regarding guidance and discipline

Ensure discipline is carried out per policy and/or administrative regulations

Assist in decision making regarding student/parent/staff communication

Ensure all District safety procedures are adhered to

Creates and maintains professional relationships with parents, visitors and school staff

Administer first aid if necessary

In the absence of Lead Caregiver, manage daily classroom activities and work closely with EDCD Assistant Coordinator when setting up special activities

Show appropriate decorum and behavior by emphasizing acceptance of cultural and gender diversity and zero tolerance for sexual harassment

Responsible for educating, motivating and instilling a degree of care, quality, pride and responsiveness in the classroom environment

 

School/Organizational Improvements:

Keeps informed about customer opinion, initiate operation improvements, and makes recommendations to the Assistant Coordinator of ECDC

 

Student Management:

Demonstrate support for the district’s student management policies

Maintain student confidentiality

 

Professional Growth and Development:

Develop professional skills and knowledge appropriate to the job assignment

Participate in staff development by attending staff meetings as assigned

 

School/Community Relations:

Articulate the district’s mission to the community as necessary and solicit its support in realizing the mission

Demonstrate awareness of the district/community needs and initiate activities to meet those identified needs

 

Working Conditions:

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written), the ability to cope with emotional situations and stress

Maintain emotional control when under stress

Anticipate moderate stooping, bending, lifting in addition to pushing/pulling equipment during set-up and clean-up

Regular and consistent attendance

Demonstrate patience and flexibility in changing job demands and when interacting with employees, visitors, and the public
