Job Title:          Substitute Teacher                                                 Wage/Hour Status: Non-Exempt

Substitute applicants must be 21 years of age or older.  

Pay scale:                   

     Sub with 60+ college hours= $100.00/daily

     Certified teachers= $110.00/daily

     Long Term- on the 31st day= $154.00

     Paraprofessional positions= $90.00/daily 

Primary Purpose:

To follow lesson plans provided by the absent teacher to provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the core academic subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. 

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

Minimum 60 hours college credit

 

Applicants for substitute teacher positions will be considered in the following order:

  • Hold a valid teaching certificate issued by the state of Texas
  • Hold a valid teaching certificate issued by another state
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Hold a degree in critical subject areas, such as special education, math, science, or bilingual – early childhood
  • Earned a minimum of 60 hours college credit

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

General knowledge of curriculum and instruction

Ability to implement lesson plans provided

Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior

Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  1. Establish communication with the campus substitute coordinator.
  2. Adhere to the campus bell schedules and follow assignments as directed.
  3. Implement lesson plans as directed that fulfill the requirements of district’s curriculum program.
  4. Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, administrative regulations, and instructions provided by the absent teacher.
  5. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
  6. Be a positive role model for students, following the guidelines for substitute teachers and supporting the mission of the school district.
  7. Utilize appropriate classroom management techniques to create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  8. Follow established safety guidelines and emergency procedures to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  9. Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  10. Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
  11. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

None.

 

Working Conditions:

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
