Grapevine-Colleyville ISD virtual school is seeking a smart, experienced and passionate individual who wants to work in a student-centered environment of respect and trust with high expectations for all members of the community.  We are seeking an individual who believes all students can be successful, and who desires to create a culture of learning and collaboration along with preparing students with the skills necessary for life in the 21st century.

Primary Purpose: 

Working from a home office and out of an office within the Grapevine-Colleyville ISD, the certified Virtual Learning Instructor will “virtually” manage instructional programs by providing synchronous and asynchronous online instruction for students in their content area(s). Teachers are responsible for monitoring progress, evaluating work, conducting online instruction, online and face to face tutorial sessions, providing academic guidance, and being the subject-matter expert for the school’s students, including those in need of remediation or advancement. Using the telephone, Internet and various curriculum tools, the Virtual Learning Instructor will consult regularly with program staff, parents and students to ensure that each child successfully completes his/her instructional program.   Teachers provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the core academic subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

Qualifications: 

Education/Certification:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university, Masters preferred

Valid Texas teaching certificate specified area

Required endorsements or required training for subject and level assigned

Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned with Advance Placement (AP)experience preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of core academic subject assigned

General knowledge of curriculum and instruction

Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Strong technology skills (especially with Microsoft OS and MS Office programs)

Excellent communication skills, both oral and written

Experience:

Three years of teaching experience with a preference for online instruction

Major Responsibilities and Duties: 

The Virtual Learning Instructor will be responsible for the successful completion of the following tasks:

that

  • Devise and implement virtual methods of creating and maintaining a “school community”;
  • Tutor struggling students, in small groups or one-on-one;
  • Provides diagnostic, prescriptive, and evaluative services for identified students;
  • Complete all grading, create progress reports and conduct parent conferences in a timely manner;
  • Review curriculum and devise alternate approaches to presenting lessons to increase student understanding (working directly with students and parents);
  • Create and digitize concept teachlets, lessons and supplemental lessons
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the state TEKS standards and how to align with the online curriculum;
  • Communicate with parents, students, and other teachers on a regular basis to develop and update Personal Learning Plans (PLP) and schedules, score assessments, provide feedback on student work, suggest instructional approaches and strategies, monitor completion of assignments, and coach special projects;
  • Understand overall diversity of assigned families and individual characteristics of students/parents; specifically, how this impacts support needed;
  • Establish and maintain a positive rapport with assigned families;
  • Support students with set-up and maintenance of their learning environment;
  • Support students through basic computer troubleshooting;
  • Work collaboratively with other teachers to ensure that all students are successfully progressing through the program, that parents have a central point of contact, and that tasks are distributed among the teachers;
  • Work with other teachers, the Director of Counseling Services and the Director of Virtual education to ensure students and families are receiving appropriate communications, students are making adequate progress and established goals are being met
  • Develop a general knowledge of the entire program’s curriculum and a very detailed knowledge of the courses for which responsible;
  • Support students and parents with alternate strategies and provide additional assistance with daily assignments and projects;
  • Responsible for student academic progress and attendance;
  • Assess student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
  • Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP);
  • Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits;
  • Teach students and parents academic integrity and virtual etiquette expectations of the school,
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing;
  • Communicate high expectations and shows an active interest in student’s achievement;
  • Be a positive role model for students, and support the mission of the campus and of the school district;
  • Alert administrators to any concerns about student performance and progress;
  • Communicate regularly with parents, students, and curriculum specialists through use of computer and telephone;
  • Keep student records and data up-to-date, including cumulative files, online student and family information, attendance accounting, and logging all student and parent contacts;
  • Consult with other teachers and staff learning specialists to develop alternate enrichment activities and modifications to students’ programs to increase student understanding;
  • Work with other teachers to coordinate social activities and relevant field trips for students;
  • Sponsor a school club and manage regional field trips while making efforts to integrate trips into the curriculum;
  • Participate in the organization and administration of State Mandated Testing, PSAT and/or AP testing that may require overnight stays throughout the state, as directed;
  • Participate in student recruiting sessions and other marketing efforts that require teacher representation;
  • Attend community activities implemented for families;
  • Demonstrate a high level of effectiveness;
  • Adhere to the principles as listed in the Code of Ethics and Standard Practices for Texas Educators;
  • Keep informed of, and comply with, state, district, and school regulations and policies for virtual teachers;
  • Display dependability and punctuality in all assigned duties;
  • Travel to and participate in staff meetings and professional development sessions as required;
  • Other duties as assigned
