Primary Purpose:
Responsible for static (stand-alone) and dynamic (total building interactive network) programming, commissioning, and troubleshooting of building control and Facility Management Systems per plans and specifications while ensuring staff comfort, optimal energy consumption and compliance with the Board adopted Energy Use Policy.
Qualifications:
Education/Experience:
Bachelor's or Associate Degree in mechanical or electronic technology with two (2) years related experience or (without a degree) four (4) years demonstrated experience in same
Knowledge of the commercial or HVAC industry to include focus on heating and ventilating air conditioning systems
Prefer prior experience with Johnson Control Metasys Systems, Alerton and Reliable systems
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Strong personal computer skills with 3n1 party software
Ability to communicate technical material to a non-technical audience
Ability to communicate effectively in writing and in person
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Responsible for total system operation and loading of software for Facilities Management Systems
- Performs static (stand-alone) and dynamic (total building interactive network) software programming
- Troubleshoots system problems, works with subcontractors and other trades to ensure proper operation
- Calibrates systems requiring basic electronic test equipment, such as multi-meters, network terminals and/or laptop computer
- Interprets Johnson Controls engineering system control drawings as to layouts, location and operation of electronic hardware (FMS, HVAC controls)
- Conducts self-study (reading, research and practice) to improve technical proficiency (software/hardware) in Facilities Management Systems and energy conservation techniques
- All data input for HVAC and EMS systems.
- Capable of determining and directing the installation or reconfiguration of controllers and sensors
- Trains and teaches other Facility Services staff members how to schedule on the system
- Works with Compliance Officer to ensure compliance with Board adopted Energy Use Policy and assesses all data reports for optimal energy consumption and proficiency of the systems
- Maintains a ledger of all energy consumption costs based on area and equipment available per campus.
- Works with in-house maintenance staff to diagnose and recommend repair/replacement of equipment
- Directs work of sub-contractors and in-house staff to service, repair and replace equipment; verifies the work of sub-contractors and approves their invoices
- The Lead HVAC Engineer will implement and direct a preventative maintenance program for all HVAC equipment, ensure that it is being performed and provides training to in-house staff as needed
- Must have regular and consistent attendance
- Performs other duties as assigned
Due to the nature of this position, this person will be on-call routinely (shared with other persons once trained) to program and/or direct the scheduling of required systems or troubleshoot system failures online. A laptop computer is provided for this purpose.
Working Conditions:
Continual walking, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, and heavy lifting and carrying. Work in tiring and uncomfortable positions, outside and inside. Exposure to extreme temperatures. Frequent district wide travel.
